Overview
This program will serve to elevate provider understanding of palliative medicine in their own practice and within the WellSpan system. The education provided will increase knowledge and understanding of palliative medicine. It will also engage providers to practice primary palliative skills in their own practice.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this presentation, the participant should be able to:

  1. Articulate the significance of effective pain management in palliative medicine for any healthcare providers
  2. Identify and utilize assessment tools to distinguish between different types of pain
  3. Explain the mechanisms underlying pain and outline the stepwise approach for selecting opioid versus non-opioid pain management strategies
  4. List common opioids and their properties, and clarify the criteria and rationale for selecting short-acting versus long-acting formulations
  5. Identify appropriate opioids and describe their application in end-of-life care
