Overview

Addiction Medicine Journal Club, Episode 2
The Patient Experience of Depot versus Sublingual Buprenorphine

Addiction is a disease that can be treated, and this audio will help you stay up to date with the latest research that you can use in your addiction medicine practice. In this episode of Addiction Medicine Journal Club, we discuss "Patient-Reported Outcomes of Treatment of Opioid Dependence with Weekly and Monthly Subcutaneous Depot vs Daily Sublingual Buprenorphine."

Citation: Patient-Reported Outcomes of Treatment of Opioid Dependence with Weekly and Monthly Subcutaneous Depot vs Daily Sublingual Buprenorphine. (The DEBUT trial) Nicholas Lintzeris; Et Al. JAMA Network Open, 10 May 2021, 2021:4(5):e219041.

Available at https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamanetworkopen/fullarticle/2779751

In our introduction, we discuss safe drug consumption sites. Take a look at this New York Times article about the US’s first (official, legal) safe consumption site, a description of a long-running unsanctioned safe injection site from the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, and this review article on safe consumption sites worldwide. We also talk about caring for medical workers who have substance use disorders. If you live in Pennsylvania and you are a healthcare professional with a substance use disorder, confidential help is available from the Physicians’ Health Program.

If you want your comments about this article included in a future episode, leave them in your CME quiz, email us at [email protected], talk to us on Twitter @AddicionMedJC, or even record a comment using the voice memo app on your phone and email it to us. Thank you for being part of the conversation.
