The Millard G. Diehl Cardiovascular Lectureship Endowment was established in 1996 through a gift left to WellSpan Health by Mr. Millard G. Diehl to offer an annual cardiovascular educational program for our community and healthcare professionals. This year's session will be presented by Dr. Matthew Singleton to address updates in the field of atrial fibrillation pathophysiology and management.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this presentation, the participant should be able to:

  1. Describe atrial fibrillation as an EKG manifestation of an underlying disease—the fibrotic atrial cardiomyopathy—which has mechanical, electrophysiologic, neurohumoral, and hematologic components
  2. Review the benefits and risks of rhythm control that can vary substantially according to the patient’s stage of disease and their burden of atrial fibrosis
  3. Discuss the implications of recently-published clinical trials on the cardiovascular benefits of rhythm control for atrial fibrillation
