Mental Health Awareness / Question Persuade Refer (Suicide Prevention Training) 11/21/22

QPR stands for Question, Persuade and Refer. Three simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. QPR is a nationally certified program taught by certified trainers.

1. List risk factors that may increase the likelihood of developing both a mental health diagnosis and risk factors specifically related to suicide
2. Apply a 5-step action plan to respond appropriately to someone struggling with a mental health challenge
3. Describe the 3 steps of the suicide triad
4. Identify myths and facts the revolve around the topic of suicide
5. List specific warning signs related to suicidal behavior
6. Describe situational clues and stressors related to suicide
7. Conduct the 3 steps of QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer - ability to engage in active listening, ask clarifying questions, make an appropriate referral)
8. Practice the steps of QPR through an interactive, instructor-led role play
9. List various resources for both mental health and suicide prevention
