Overview
Our goal for this workshop is to provide hands-on, high-yield procedural refreshers tailored to scenarios that require rapid, coordinated intervention in the emergency department. Given the critical importance of timely recognition and management of these emergencies, this workshop reviews evidence-based maneuvers, troubleshooting common challenges, and pearls for team communication during these high-stakes events.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this presentation, the participant should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate effective team leadership, role delegation, and closed-loop communication during critical events  
  2. Discuss strategies to facilitate resident training during high-risk procedures 
  3. Integrate patient safety principles and anticipate complications during high-risk procedures
  4. Reflect on performance through facilitated debriefing to identify areas for improvement and practice change

Airway Emergencies: Troubleshooting Tracheostomies

1. Recognize early and late complications of tracheostomies, including obstruction, dislodgement, and bleeding  
 
2. Develop a systematic approach to the evaluation and management of a tracheostomy emergency  
 
3. Demonstrate airway management techniques in patients with tracheostomies, including escalation strategies in a “can’t intubate, can’t oxygenate” scenario 

 

Shoulder Dystocia
