2025 Department of Anesthesia Education Program

The discipline of anesthesia is evolving quickly, and anesthesia providers are frequently exposed to new updates on guidelines. Additionally, techniques, equipment, and technology continue to evolve and impact the daily practice of many anesthesia providers. The overall goal of these activities (Grand Rounds and Case Studies) is to provide anesthesia providers with a forum to learn about recent updates and best practice initiatives, while also providing a platform to discuss the latest updates and processes around anesthesia care in a group setting. In addition, a case report is a form of medical communication. The major advantages of case reporting are the ability to make new observations, generate hypotheses, accumulate scientific data about rare disorders or occurrence's, do in-depth narrative studies, and serve as a major educational tool (Nissen, 2014). Scholarly peer review (also known as refereeing) is the important process of subjecting one's work to the scrutiny of others who are students or clinicians in the same field. The purpose of these case studies is to provide a focused review of a single clinical observation whose principal purpose is to generate hypotheses regarding human disease or provide insight into clinical practice. Overall, the case study will summarize the provider's assessment, individualized plan, pharmacology, decision-making, and patient outcomes. The current state of knowledge on the topic will be reviewed. The goal is to create an understanding of the topic for both the presenter and audience by discussing the findings presented in recent research papers (from multiple disciplines).

1. Describe recent updates and best practice initiatives regarding multiple facets of anesthesia care.
2. Participate in a platform to discuss the latest updates and processes involving anesthesia care in a group setting.
3. Describe recent updates in techniques, equipment, and technologies impacting anesthesia care delivery.
4. Review a single clinical observation to generate hypotheses regarding human disease and provide insight into clinical practice.
5. Discuss the findings presented in recent multidisciplinary research papers.
