Overview
The purpose of this education is to create a safe, nondiscriminatory healthcare environment for the LGBTQ+ persons and address their healthcare needs. Studies have demonstrated that a large proportion of LGBTQ+ persons have had negative interactions with healthcare providers. This activity is directed at common knowledge gaps for healthcare providers.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this presentation, the participant should be able to:

  1. Explain the need for inclusive care for the LGBTQ+ population.
  2. Describe how to collect SOGI Data for the LGBTQ+ population.
  3. Review screenings specific to the LGBTQ+ population.

Creating a Safe Healthcare Environment for the LGBTQ+ Community

The purpose of this education is to create a safe, nondiscriminatory healthcare environment for the LGBTQ+ persons and address their healthcare needs. Studies have demonstrated that a large proportion of LGBTQ+ persons have had negative interactions with healthcare providers. This activity is directed at common knowledge gaps for healthcare providers.

This educational program is part of a DNP candidate project for Karrie Peterson.  You are not required to participate in the study, more information is available within the program, and there is a link in the program that allows you to opt in or out of participation.  

Purpose of the Study

My name is Karrie Peterson, and I am conducting a study as partial fulfillment of the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree at Wilkes University. The purpose of this study is to identify opportunities to create a safe, nondiscriminatory healthcare environment for the LGBTQ+ persons while ensuring their healthcare needs are met.

Expiration: This enduring material activity was published on 9/18/2023 and qualifies for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s) TM for 36 months following publication until 9/18/2026.

Requirements:

To receive credit, read the overview, complete Pre-Test, launch the content and view in entirety.  You may close the module at the end of the HIV screenings video to return to CloudCME.  Then complete the Post-Test, and evaluation. The Post-Test requires a score of 66% to pass with 3 attempts to successfully compete.   Subjective questions (Likert scale) are not graded.

None of the planners, content developers, authors or presenters for this educational activity have relevant financial relationship(s) to disclose with ineligible companies whose primary business is producing, marketing, selling, re-selling, or distributing healthcare products used by or on patients.

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component,
enables the learner to earn credit toward the CME and Self-Assessment requirement(s) of the American
Board of Surgery’s Continuous Certification program. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to
submit learner completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABS credit.

This activity offers up to 0.5 CME credits, of which 0.5 credits contribute the patient safety CME component of the American Board of Anesthesiology’s redesigned Maintenance of Certification in AnesthesiologyTM (MOCA®) program, known as MOCA 2.0®. Please consult the ABA website, www.theABA.org, for a list of all MOCA 2.0 requirements.

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the learner to earn credit toward the CME of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery’s Maintenance of Certification program. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit learner completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABOS credit.

This activity offers up to 0.5 CME credits in Lifelong Learning (CME) of the American Board of Pathology's  Continuing Certification program.

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the learner to earn credit toward the CME and Self-Assessment  and Patient Safety requirements of the American Board of Thoracic Surgery’s Maintenance of Certification program.
