In an effort to continue to educate staff and physicians on Culture and Belonging topics, we will be discussing the Book "The War for Kindness, Building Empathy in a Fractured World" by Jamil Zaki. Jamil Zaki's The War for Kindness argues that empathy is not a fixed trait but a trainable skill, challenging the idea that some people are just naturally more empathetic. The book, blending science, personal stories (including Zaki's own upbringing), and research, shows how individuals can consciously develop and strengthen their capacity for compassion through deliberate practice, even in difficult circumstances, offering practical ways to improve connection in a divided world.

1. Define and explain empathy and the importance of cultivating empathy.
2. Discuss the forces which undermine empathy.
3. Describe and use the skills to improve empathy and create a change in culture.
